The MBR system represents very reliable technology and is characterized by high water treatment performance and is ideal for the reuse of treated wastewater. The Membrane Biological Reactors are derived from the coupling of the traditional activated sludge process with cross-flow filtration systems on porous membrane. So unlike a traditional treatment system with activated sludge, the sludge separation from the permeate does not take place by sedimentation but through filtration with membrane modules that guarantee output water free of bacteria that do not require an additional sanitizing treatment. The modules can be inserted into the compartment oxidation/nitrification compartment of the organic bath or in a separate tank downstream. The system can be made with a prefabricated installation or built on site with tanks in reinforced concrete. The MBR system allows you to:
- Achieve high quality levels of treated water;
- Reuse of treated water;
- Small footprint; less than half of an activated sludge process;
- The systems can be modular and expandable;
- Lower production of excess sludge to reduce disposal costs;
- Prevents sludge spills from sedimentation which is very common in industrial and urban wastewater plants.
